چکیده

We study critical points of a Ginzburg-Landau type functional with an attractive-repulsive-attractive nonlocal interaction. Using an appropriate scaling and the Γ-convergence method we reduce the problem to a finite dimensional one. In contrast to a similar problem with just an attractive-repulsive interaction, we obtain a richer set of solutions. The soliton-stripe patterns appear as skewed local minimizers of the free energy, and dissappear or become symmetric as the number of interfaces reaches a certain threshold. We also show how other critical points can be constructed using results of the diblock copolymer problem.

Bright solitons in a two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate

We study a two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive contact interactions by both the variational method and the imaginary-time evolution of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The dipoles are completely polarized along one direction in the two-dimensional plane to provide an effective attractive dipole-dipole interaction. We find two types of solitons as the...

Solitons in a modified Gross-Pitaevskii approximation in one dimension

A modified Gross-Pitaevskii approximation was introduced recently for bosons in dimension d ≤ 2 by Kolomeisky et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1146 (2000)). We reproduce, using the density functional approach, the stationaryframe results of Kolomeisky et al. for a repulsive interaction. We also find a new soliton solution for an attractive interaction, which may be boosted to a finite velocity by a ...

Solitons in a one-dimensional interacting Bose-Einstein system

A modified Gross-Pitaevskii approximation was introduced recently for bosons in dimension d ≤ 2 by Kolomeisky et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1146 (2000)). We use the density functional approach with sixth-degree interaction energy term in the Bose field to reproduce the stationary-frame results of Kolomeisky et al. for a one-dimensional Bose-Einstein system with a repulsive interaction. We also fi...

Stripe, gossamer, and glassy phases in systems with strong nonpairwise interactions.

We study structure formation in systems of classical particles in two dimensions with long-range attractive short-range repulsive two-body interactions and repulsive three-body interactions. Stripe, gossamer, and glass phases are found as a result of nonpairwise interaction.

Low temperature energy phase diagram for adsorption on Fcc(112) stepped surfaces with attractive first neighbor interactions.

The transfer matrix method developed for the study of monomer adsorption on terraces and nanotubes is applied to on top adsorption on fcc(112) stepped surfaces. The effect due to the step is taken into account by considering adsorbate-substrate interaction on step sites to be different from that on the other bulk sites. We also consider first- and second- neighbor adsorbate-adsorbate interactio...
